Indulge in Anguilla
By : Rosa Rojas

Anguilla is a favorite of travelers looking for unparalleled relaxation. A mere 16 miles by 3 miles, this tiny island, nevertheless, boasts several ways to unwind, including three standout spas, each with its own style of pampering. CuisinArt has the island’s newest and largest facility; Malliouhana’s spa is perfectly suited for group indulgences; and Cap Juluca offers an unexpectedly tranquil setting for its treatments.

CuisinArt’s Venus Spa, at 27,000 square feet, has everything a spa should have and then some. One of its more popular treatment rooms is the Couples Rendezvous, complete with a patio area equipped with lounge chairs and a hot tub. But its most noteworthy asset is the Healing Waters indoor saltwater pool, the only one of its kind on the island. Aqua Massage Therapy and Aqua Reflexology are conducted in the pool by placing flotation devices under the neck and around the legs, making the treatments effortlessly relaxing.

“The physical benefits of mineral-rich saltwater are derived from the added buoyancy, thereby decreasing the pressure exerted on the joints as the therapist uses a variety of techniques, including massage, pressure point, passive range of motion and stretching,” says Spa Director Kathy Eggleston. Afterward, head to the spa’s rooftop, where a sushi restaurant serves a variety of healthy options.

The 15,000-square-foot Malliouhana Spa offers a more intimate experience. Its unrivaled feature is its Tranquility Suite, which can accommodate up to 17 people. Popular with wedding parties, the suite overlooks the ocean and features a spacious balcony. While the bride enjoys a massage, her bridesmaids can receive a pedicure and the mother-of-the-bride a facial. This is group relaxation at its best.

“We can arrange lunch or a buffet from our Michael Rostang restaurant,” explains Spa Director Estella Gagliano. “We can also work directly with the group to create a package that satisfies everyone—and my staff will decorate the room according to the event that is taking place.”

Cap Juluca’s spa will be built later this year. For now, those seeking the soothing effects of a massage will have to settle for an in-room treatment. Or is it really settling? With villas overlooking the postcard-perfect Maundays Bay, a private massage on your balcony is anything but settling. The sound of the waves lull you into deeper relaxation or, if you prefer, an in-room iPod docking station provides your favorite tunes as the backdrop to your treatment.

“Guests love not having to trek to a spa for their treatment. They love being able to relax in the comfort of their own room after a treatment and even doze off for a nap when the treatment is over,” says Charles Black, the resort’s director of sales and marketing.

Once the spa is built, guests will still have the option of in-room massages. And with villas equipped with Bvlgari toiletries, a choice of silk or cotton robes and complimentary Pyrat Rum, settling for an in-room treatment never sounded so good.

Can’t decide which spa style best suits you? Try all three. There’s no such thing as too much relaxation while on vacation.
