Protecting Mother Nature’s Gifts
By : Eagle Latitudes
One of the greatest pastimes during a vacation to an oceanside locale is to snorkel or scuba dive, taking time to marvel at the wonders of Mother Nature. Reefs and the marine life that inhabits them provide us a glimpse of an enchanting underwater world. It’s very important to preserve these natural resources for our own enjoyment and that of residents and visitors for generations to come.
NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program works to conserve and restore valuable coral reef ecosystems in the United States and internationally. NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service is the U.S. federal agency responsible for the stewardship of living marine resources and their habitats. The Southeast Regional Office of NOAA Fisheries Service works on coral reef ecosystem conservation activities in Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These activities are part of this office’s efforts on behalf of Executive Order No. 13089—which seeks to preserve and protect the biodiversity, health, and social and economic value of coral reef ecosystems—and the Coral Reef Conservation Act.
