Eagle Teams with USO to Offer Comfort
American Eagle helped sponsor the Rockford, Ill. AirFest 2009 and conducted a fundraiser dubbed Operation Comfort to assist the United Service Organization (USO) in its efforts to provide accommodations to the nearly 10,000 U.S. military personnel who travel through Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport every month.
Highlights of the air show included the raffle of a pair of round-trip tickets and displays of American Eagle Embraer and American B737 aircraft, open to the public for tours. The American Airlines and American Eagle Veterans Military Employee Resource Group (VMERG) in Chicago was instrumental in organizing the show, including a private event for 40 Make-A-Wish children.
An estimated 200,000 people attended the air show over two days, raising thousands of dollars for Operation Comfort. More than 600 people toured the American Eagle aircraft, thanks to our volunteer crew members and main organizers, Captains Javier Medina and Mike Jones. Also instrumental in making the day a success were First Officers Leslie Treppa, Kristina Schmidt, Bobby Beohm and Daryl Clark; Flight Attendants Mary Oswald and Carla Visoky; and Eagle volunteers Eve Medina and Carlos Diaz.
